Uplift America has awarded $50 million to an established CDFI intermediary to fund nonprofits across the Appalachian portion of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, Alabama, and Maryland. The new loan program will finance essential rural facilities such as healthcare centers, transitional housing, town halls, courthouses, libraries, food banks, street improvements, childcare centers, public safety services, and educational facilities.

The CDFI intermediary seeks nonprofit organizations working in high-poverty or persistent-poverty rural areas in Appalachia and will provide low-interest, long-term, fixed-rate loans as well as technical assistance and financial expertise.

The intermediary will add Uplift America funds to its existing resources for a more prosperous Appalachian region. The Uplift America Fund is a collaboration of government, philanthropy, and finance aimed at addressing poverty in rural America by directing significant capital toward creating needed community services and strengthening community-based lenders.
